Mixing Contest 2018 - Preliminary Voting

Voted! :girlp::jhappy::yeah::tease::victory: :2up::jump::egypt:

Voted.
I noticed that, when judging mixes, you tend to select the most bright and "smiley eq'ed" ones. Then the correct ones become dull.
So I chose to listen to a reference track while I voted.
Mine was too medium and I preferred other mixes (great mixers here). But it still sounds pretty good to me as long as I do not listen to an overexcited mix before. :)
Good luck everybody!

My Mix was my Reference, not to bright and not to dull, not overprocessed, good low-end, not harsh as hell, no 80s Reverb, good depth, good vibe, a mixing engineer without stinkfoot, enough espresso during the mixing process...

Just enough.: p

That's how I got it, no problem (yet).

You will have to send me your mix numbers in private if you want me to confirm you assertions. :kaffee:

After the Voting Phase ;)

What I'm interested in:
Mastering Engieers also participated here, how will the jury vote and who has the better room and speakers? The jury or the participants???

I found it quit difficult to get rid of that brittle upper midrange on vocals and guitars without pushing them to much in the back

I solved it

Just mute the vocals and guitars in the main mix and render them as a separate song, so you get the best of both worlds and double your chances of winning a prize.

Cool idea but now its just to late. What I did is I striped in backward played very dark messages almost unnoticeable to move away the listeners attention from the brittleness. Seem to work although I couldn't believe it myself :jawohl:

I've worked with saturation on the guitars, after eqing the upper mids down.. to fill the gap.
