Von Relab:
“Hi all! I see some random issues and questions and will do my best to answer as many as I can - or get you answers if I don't have
them.
For those wondering why the MEA-2 before the reverbs? The MEA-2 has been in the works for years and is the foundation for a lot of
new internal tech and is providing a future-proofed path moving forward. The new reverbs aren't very far behind (as are outstanding
fixes on existing products). This release has unblocked many things - many were/are connected.
As for why an EQ? Especially one as clean as the Maselec?
First off - to work alongside Leif Mases. I was one of the team who had the personal honour of spending many hours with Leif talking
about his design process and his extreme attention to detail. (not to mention the GREAT recording stories from some of my favorite
albums ever). That I will cherish for a long, long time.
second - to create a plug-in close enough for him to sign off on. That was no easy feat for Martin and the team. The robotics,
machine learning and underlying filter approach to pull it off is far from typical (benefits we will all reap in future plugins)
And for those interested in accuracy (and for those asking for proof) - here are the comparison tests of the plug-in to our
reference unit - and also it's based on a version 7 for those that know the hardware over the years.
And to be clear - This is NOT a color EQ. There is no harmonic color added in the plug-in (the analog hardware is insanely clean).
Once you get your color - then you reach for an MEA-2 (like the hardware)
This is ALL about the curves and does it get you to a result that you think sounds great - quickly and consistently.
Can you match a curve and null on another EQ? Most likely yes. It may take you more than one band and some fiddling about -
especially the low bands.
Would you have chosen a similar asymmetrical curve as a first choice? Maybe...?
Would you do that for every gain position on every frequency setting (which is different at EVERY setting - because EVERY setting on
the original is hand-tuned) - highly unlikely. Especially when you combine moves etc - it compounds.
It's absolutely not for everyone. But those that love it - seem to truly love it, because they love the hardware MEA-2 and it gets

them a predictable result that's quick and painless.
If anyone has any more specific questions about the MEA-2 - please hit me up and as I said, if I don't have the answer - I'll try to
get it for you.
And as always - for any tech issues - a few odd ones showing up on random Logic installs - we're chasing those now. And as always -
support is the best path for those issues
