Ich hab mich eigentlich nur auf echte Instrumente bezogen. Aber man kann das eigentlich auf alles mögliche übertragen ...Meinst du damit jetzt VSTi vs. echtes Instrument?
Ich dachte, es ist heutzutage Konsens, die Effekte in den Hintergrund zu mischen, dass man sie kaum wahrnimmt, nur als unterbewusste Verbesserung der Atmosphäre.
Nicht akademisch, aber eine vereinfachte Erklärung, weshalb sich VVKT von einfachen Impulsantworten unterscheidet. Kam heute auf GS, von einem, der Teile von Gold abgesampelt hat.Was mich übrigens trotzdem interessieren würde: Gibt's irgendwelche Publikationen zu Nebula wo man mal schwarz auf weiß nachlesen könnte? Ich bilde mir ein, dass die ganze Idee ja auch aus einem akademischen Kontext kommt - oder täusche ich mich da?

Many of the impulse response sets are 200MB (larger than many
well known nebula complete libraries).
The interface has perfect responsiveness.
Sound is smooth as silk.
No bugs whatsoever.
Basic version (with the full sampled responses) sells for 65 bucks.
Product has the permission and technical help (in order to nail the sound) by Bricasti.
Developer is humble, polite, non-argumentative, non-defensive.
Releases a new product every few years when it is absolutely ready to go.
Customers are not beta testers.
Many lessons to be learned here.
Nobody needs any legal aid, here, and of course everybody loves a bug-free and responsive software, but for the sake of fairness let me single out just one point: no comparison is really possible between VVKT (the technology employed in Nebula/Acqua) and plain convolution.
Granted, the basic principle is the same: in a nutshell each sample of an impulse is multiplied for each sample of the input signal.
But the level of underlying complexity is really incomparable. Nebula is more akin to a 3D render engine, which must continuously browse through thousands of data and choose the few relevant ones to draw, say, only the leaves on a tree that are visible at any given moment. And this task must be executed not just at 30 or 60 FPS, but in most cases at sample rate speed (compressors and harmonic generating devices, for instance).
So you understand, it's much simpler to convolve one or few static impulses with a signal than all this. And basically it's not just a matter of impulse length. And Acqua plugins have in many cases more than ten instances working at the same time.
IMHO, Nebula is already a small technological miracle, subject to further evolution, of course.
