Morgen Wurde featuring
Georges-Emmanuel Schneider (1, 2) - violin
Maria Estrella Aggabao (2) - vocals
Tetsuroh Konishi (3 - 8) - trumpet
David Strother (6, 9) - electric violin
Morgen Wurde is the project of German composer W.R., who seeks to channel both the majestic and awe-inspiring, as well as the ominous and threatening sides of the forces of nature. Within his soundscapes, instrumentalists wander like sentient souls, echoing the existential enigma of human experience.
This tenth album by Morgen Wurde, "Von Jetzt An" ("From Now On"), covers a particularly broad spectrum from the dark and abyssal to the radiant and celestial. Crucial to the album’s uncanny gravitas is the presence of human breath and gesture amid the soundscapes, giving the music its tangible human touch: Georges-Emmanuel Schneider’s violin cuts through the spheres with startling poignancy; David Strother’s electric violin, by contrast, echoes ghostly from a world in between; Tetsuroh Konishi’s trumpet feels like a beacon transmitting yearning across vast distances. And then Maria Estrella’s angelic vocals, weightless and crystalline, floating from an even higher altitude of feeling.
The result is an album that — through its solo voices — feels profoundly intimate, and — through its immense soundscapes — vast to disappear into.
