Cool.
Vom Gearslutz Thread:
We have released a small update of commercial and trial, including some new
Headphones and profiles
- we re-sampled the
Beyerdynamic DT1990 including the normal and analytical pads. Someone complained about these
Headphones telling us that they sounded bright compared to a competitor, so here's the explanation: these
Headphones are particularly bright above 10kHz. Normally, we try not to make corrections above this frequency, so as not to distort the
Headphones too much, and also because constructionally speaking it is a very dangerous region (there can be a lot of fluctuations). In this case, we made an exception by providing a more balanced result. We also averaged the response with another emergency reference system that we used before switching to Gras. This system in fact is particularly sensitive to high frequencies.
- we have added a new profile for
LCD-X: we now have a very large number of users who prefer our profile to any other, but we have counted some people who complained of high frequencies. Here's the short story: these
Headphones were practically the only ones for which we kept a correction we had made before purchasing Gras (you'll read about it in the book, along with other details). A few weeks ago we had offered this profile in place of the original one, but by then all of our beta testers had gotten used to it. In particular, one of them was visiting our offices one day and after trying the new profile he admitted that he was used to the old one, which he considered much more effective and analytical. In fact, the most correct profile from the point of view of high frequencies is the one we had not included. We have added it!
We added
- B&W P7 -> it came out an exceptional profile
- GRADO PS500e -> came up with a great profile. We measured these
Headphones with a different pad than the original which makes them sound much better. The correction however is also fine with the original pad. If you need any information the owner can write below and explain more.
- Denon DN HP1000 -> came out with a balanced profile
- VMODA M100 -> very balanced profile.
- Audiotechnica ATH ADX5000 -> is a great headphone - and very expensive. It tends to be crisp but has incredible detail accuracy. Our correction (rooms + reference) doesn't sound that far off from how the headphone sounds without correction (we emphasize subs). We probably have a similar view as the manufacturer.
- Sennheiser HD598SE -> are unfortunately
Headphones that tend towards easy distortion. But on the correction side we had to intervene very little. They sound like a headphone should sound according to our thinking. Unfortunately, it is not possible to make it sound loud, even using a very good amplifier.
and tomorrow (not included in this package, because completed very late this evening) you will have:
-
Beyerdynamic DT770 Pro 80 -> this is a headphone that hardly needs correction in the low frequencies, but does need it in the 5kHz area. In the end, we found a good balance between what it can deliver without making the sensitivity too much worse.
