Hallo zusammen!
Da ich diesen Text auch in internationalen Foren poste, habe ich ihn in englisch verfasst. Ich hoffe das ist kein Problem. Antwortet mir gerne auf deutsch.
-------
So in the past days I was thinking about stage lighting automation. But I do not know anything about it. I'm totally into synth music and I'm programming everything with MIDI. I was wondering if there was some stage lights that could be controlled simply via MIDI.
Take this lightbar for instance:

So this is a pretty simple lightbar with 16 multicolor LEDs. In my thinking this lightbar could have a MIDI-jack or a USB-jack, just like any other MIDI-compatible device. If I would connect this thing via MIDI, or USB-MIDI to my computer, I could control the lights in my DAW via MIDI-notes. For example the first light in the bar could be triggered by the note C1. The brightness of the light could be controlled via the velocity of the note. The same thing would be possible with the color value of the light. This could be controlled by any other MIDI-value.
Now this would be a pretty static setup, but I think this concept would work even with moving lights.
Take this one for example:

The angles of each axis could also be controlled by any MIDI-value.
I have seen on the net that there are some things that are called DMX-controllers. These seem to be used for the control of stage lights normally. But it seems to me like this way doesn't use the automation advantages of MIDI, since everything is connected via XLR-cables. As far as I know XLR-cables can't carry any MIDI information. I may bey wrong but I think can only transport audio signals. So I don't understand how this should actually work with MIDI. I don't understand why one would need a DMX-controller if everything could simply be controlled directly via MIDI. And also I don't understand why it seems like there are no stage lights with direct MIDI-control support.
So I would really appreciate if there was someone who could bring some light into my confusion about this topic.
Thanks!
