Hello People !
My name is Phil and i live in austria.
I am new to this forum but i hope to find professional help here.
I am even a noob in cubase.
My Hardware:
Computername: Power [g=18]Mac[/g] G5
Computermodell: PowerMac7,3
CPU-Type: PowerPC G5 (3.0)
Number of CPUs: 2
CPU-Geschwindigkeit: 2.3 GHz
L2-Cache (pro CPU): 512 KB
Memory: 2.5 GB
[g=183]Bus[/g] speed: 1.15 GHz
Boot-ROM-Version: 5.2.4f1
I am using a metric halo Mobile I/O 2882 ("• 18 simultaneous input channels and 20 simultaneous output channels • full 24 bit/96kHz audio" ),
http://www.mhlabs.com/metric_halo/products/mio/
I am about to record an accustic guitar using a AKG c414 and a Se Z 5600 A and a SM 57 for the "room".
I have problems with cubase having CPU clips....
There are three tracks to record, so i press rec. and go.
But my CPU load "jumps" red while recording, without a logical reason.
Even while playing, not playing and so recording the CPU load indicator is, first, between 10-20% usage
and then it suddenly, without before increasing, there is the red "clip" indication.
This, of course, results in digital [g=99]clipping[/g], which results in high quality trash.
By the way, i use my [g=18]mac[/g] for a lot of stuff, f.ex. downloading, playing games,...
The whole situation is this: I am not playing, not doing anything.
First this:

Then suddenly:

I am recording at 24 bit and 96000 Hz.
I am using the newest versions of SX3 and the newest version of my MIO console program.
My Mobile I/O console looks like this:

My Cubase settings are:
Project settings:

Other Settings:

WELL.....
So far, so bad. Now:
What i tried to fix this:
1. I called my Cubase distributor, he said, it's a prob with the firewire interface, "99%" he said.
After my telling him what interface i have, he said: "No, can't be the interface,i donno call elswhere"
2. I called Metric halo. He said it's "99% a Cubase problem".
"Well", i said. He told me to try recording directly in the MIO console.
He said if the clip is in there too, it is a MIO or a CPU problem, but recording there had no clip.
I asked if the Firewire cable is too long: "No."
3. I tried to record a bit 6-track rekording with Ableton, had a clip in the recorded tracks also.
4.I called my apple shop for "why is there...." they didn't have a thing to say, told me to use the "activity monitoring [g=123]utility[/g]"
but then he said that i should come over to the shop and leave my [g=18]mac[/g] there for 3 days. fate. I think they just don't have a clue.
5.I tried to use another electric circuit in my household, cause i thought there may be a overload, cause a lot of hardware plugged into it, but didn't work.
6. other software versions did't work either. reinstalled MIO console, didn't work.
What i did not do to fix this:
1. reinstall Cubase and MIO console
2.reinstall, resetup my whole system.
3. sh*t on all that and burn it all down
4. adjust my buffer size/settings (which one would be the right for my machine???)
My clue:
It is a problem with the [g=12]ASIO[/g] driver
or
my [g=18]mac[/g] itself
or
the buffer
or
a background program (which i don't know of), that is running beside my MIO console and my Cubase.
My whishes: Please tell me, if there's something wrong about my settings in Cubase. Take a close look. ask for screenshots of necessary.
Are there any other settings/things, which have to be done, changes to be made, that cubase has a good performance on my computer?
(i don't want to "tweak" it, so please no "you can tick the "sharpen mouse rendering" to "off", then you get 0,002% performance")
_Help me, plz, damn, i'm on my whit's end !!!!!
Thank you for your time,
Phil "the poor cubase-er"
