Introduction

The song to mix is called "Wenn Du Mich Fragst" by my own project "gross & starck". On Spotifiy, Bandcamp, iTunes, etc. there are two songs already, which may be used for referencing.

This time, you can win prices. At this point I want to thank the company Acustica Audio from Lodi in Italy, that made this possible, and the two mastering engineers Zino Mikorey from Berlin and Kai Blankenberg (Skyline Tonfabrik) from Düsseldorf. I think it's awesome what they do for the community! Thank you very much!

We decided to also open this contest for people from outside Germany. This is why we chose English as language. You're all welcome and we hope you'll enjoy the contest. Deadline for submitting your mix is 18.03.2018, Sunday, zero o'clock midnight.

  • Cuts/muting, drum editing, vocal alignment & editing is allowed. Drum replacement & drum samples (triggering) as well as adding instruments or notes is not allowed.

  • After you are finished, you send the download link to your mix via a download link to @Ultraphon from the recording.de forum. Please use a hoster that provides an easy and fast download. The format has to be WAV (48kHz/16bit). You can compress the file into an archive like RAR or ZIP and send that.

  • Your mix will be normalized to -23LUFS via EBU R128 standards and then bounced as MP3 (320kb/s). Therefore, loud clipping mixes will not have any advantages! Pay attention to healthy dynamics that fit the song.

  • Mixes, that are submitted after the deadline, will not be considered in the voting.

  • Every participant is obliged to vote his personal top20 mixes of the contest (compare procedure). You will be disqualified, if you disregard this rule.

  • Also allowed to participate are those, that created an account on Recording.de after this thread. For the sake of fairness, we are asking you to not submit more than one mix.

Organization:

Organizers of this mixing contest are the recording.de users @flipnaut (Phillip) and @Ultraphon (Marvin).

Jury:
  • Nikolay Georgiev (Acustica Audio and georgievsound.com)
  • Kai Blankenberg (skyline-tonfabrik.de)
  • Jojo Vogt (studio drummer gross & starck, live drummer Lionshead)
  • Phillip Starck alias flipnaut (gross & starck, arrangement, guitars, bass)
  • Ultraphon (Recording.de Member)
  • Verflixte 13 (Recording.de Member)
  • Jonas Gross (gross & starck, vocals, arrangement)

Procedure

1.) You are going to choose your personal top 20 from the list of all the submitted mixes, simply by deciding if a particular mix is in your top 20 (or not) through a form that will be provided.

2.) The jury will then receive the best voted 20 mixes after the preliminary voting to determine the winners of this contest.

3.) The jury will judge your mixes, that are adjusted for equal loudness and anonymity, through a form. In this form, every jury member will be able to give 1 to 5 points to each of the following categories:

  • Song dynamics
Does the mix develope and maintain an interesting arc of sonical changes throughout the song? Does it fit the intention of this song?
  • Editing
How well did the mixer deal with possible flaws in the individual recordings, like quantizing an instrument to the beat or pitch correcting the vocals?
  • Creativity / Recognizability
Does the mix support the elements of the song in such a way that it elevates both the melody and sonic intent to a satisfying degree of recognizability? Does the mix leave you impressed after the song has finished?
  • Drumsound
Is the sonic quality of the drums mixed to your satisfaction? How well do they merge into the rest of the sound stage?
  • Sound stage
How deep and wide is the sound stage? How good is the perception of three-dimensionality? Does it fit the song?
  • Vision / Intent
In conjunction with every other category, did the mixer share the same vision of the band and the recording engineer?
  • Mastering
Did the mixer do a proper mastering in the end? Is the sonic quality in terms of compression, limiting, equalization, coloration, etc. helping the song to breathe and live appropriately?

4.) Therefore, every mix can receive a total of 35 points. Those points will then be added together for every competitor in order to calculate the final placements.

Publication of your mix:

Should you consider publishing your mix on sites like SoundCloud, it is mandatory to not do that until the song is released officially by the band. That is approximately in may. Please name the band appropriately and indicate that you mixed this song for a contest!

Official mastering/publication of the song:

The band reserves the right to decide, if the winning mix or own mix will be mastered and official released. This has to be decided along with the winner of this contest.

With kind regards from the organizers,

@flipnaut & @Ultraphon

P.S.: Just to clarify: Neither Ultraphon nor I work for Acustica Audio. They just provide the prices and simply want to try this out. From my understanding, it is the first contest for Acustica Audio.

And guys, let's keep it easy and civilized.
I'm writing here in english, because the sponsors are following along with us.

And no, there's no internal voting, but rather an external voting.

Hey Flippy... wer ist denn wer (Du) auf eurem Bild?

Hey Flippy... who is who on the band picture?

Flippi ist rechts.

Buona fortuna, ragazzi.
Ma tu hai già perso. Per favore, non piangere.

Goolge Übersetzer funktioniert wohl wie ich sehe :D

sehr schön. Wegen 'the Regels'...
